Compute North Leans in on Technology Innovation with New CTO to Expand Digital Infrastructure Focused on High Performance Computing and Cryptocurrency Mining
Next generation computing infrastructure company continues to invest in forward looking innovations with addition of new CTO, Nelu Mihai.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – May 5, 2021 – Compute North, an industry leader in economical, large-scale computing and cryptocurrency mining infrastructure, has been actively expanding its leadership team, announcing that Nelu Mihai has joined the team as Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Mihai brings 30 years of experience with a background in computer science and a focus on areas that align with Compute North’s growing core services including multi-cloud computing, AI, and blockchain.
As the senior technology executive, he will lead Compute North’s technology organization, optimize its colocation and computing data centers, engineering and technical infrastructure, and drive the company’s full-stack technology roadmap to support the next phase of computing infrastructure solutions.
“Compute North is uniquely positioned to provide the ideal low-cost digital infrastructure solution to satisfy increasing demand for compute,” said Compute North CEO, Dave Perrill. “The addition of Dr. Mihai will further accelerate our development and innovation of TIER 0™ data centers that are optimized for highly specialized computing.”
TIER O™ data center design and construction is being pioneered by Compute North, as these modular data centers optimize costs for non-mission critical and high performance computing applications, while providing greater flexibility and load stability to local power grids.
Dr. Mihai started his career as a researcher in distributed operating systems at several prestigious European nuclear institutes and universities. He has held numerous executive roles and helped pioneer the principles of cloud computing (Geoplex project at Bell Labs), open programmable networks (now Software Defined Networks), and has also led teams that built high-performance, open platforms for network security and multi-cloud solutions. His passion for innovation has led to the development of AC photovoltaic (PV) modules and the launch of the first ASIC-based microinverter into mass production and large-scale, public cloud real-time SaaS for solar systems.
“Compute North is at the intersection of three structural trends in the digital transformation of the enterprise – distributed peer-to-peer processing of blockchain transactions and cryptocurrency revolution; distributed multi-cloud computing; and distributed generation of electrical power catalyzed by the ubiquitous proliferation of renewable energy,” said Dr. Mihai. “I am thrilled to be part of the Compute North team and contribute to their efforts of advancing and optimizing novel technologies to create high-value services which focus on performance, cybersecurity, and AI in these high growth, transformational markets.”
Immediate projects will focus on beta testing of immersion solutions that scale, developing a multi-cloud framework that interconnects Compute North with the major public clouds, and implementing an AI service stack prototype.
